No. 4 Softball Sweeps Harvard in Non-Conference Action

FRESNO, Calif. - Beginning a seven-game homestand against Harvard on Tuesday night, the No. 4 Fresno State softball team kicked things off with a 9-0 (6 inn.) and 6-1 non-conference sweep over the Crimson.
In the first game, the Bulldogs picked up their ninth mercy run-rule game of the year after scoring two runs in the first, one in third and exploding for six runs in the bottom of the sixth. In that game, junior 1B Angela Cervantez went 2-3 with a run, a double, a triple and four RBI to lead the Bulldogs. Sophomore centerfielder Becky Witt went 3-4 with two runs and junior left fielder Amanda Scott went 2-3 with a run and had two RBI. Senior third baseman Jaime Maxey (1-2) and freshman pinch hitter Lindsay Fossatti (1-1) picked up a RBI a piece.
Scott was the winning pitcher. She improved to 16-3 on the year and captured her 12th shutout on the season. She tossed her third one-hitter on the year and struck out six.
In the night cap, Fresno State improved to 16-2 at Bulldog Diamond. Senior right hander Lindsay Parker tossed a three hitter and struck out seven en route to improving her record to 5-0 on the year.
Witt (2-4) and Scott (2-3) each had a RBI. Scott notched her second career triple in the fourth. Fossatti also had a RBI for the Bulldogs while freshman right fielder Vanessa Czarnecki went 1-3 with two runs and two RBI to pace the 'Dogs.
Fresno State scored its first run in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth. Harvard scored its only run in the top of the fourth after the leadoff batter got on base by a hit by pitch.
In the doublheader, Cervantez hit .750 (3-4) with a run, double, triple, four RBI and six total bases for a 1.500 slugging percentage. Scott batted .667 (4-6) with a run, triple, three RBI and six total bases for a 1.000 slugging percentage. Witt hit .625 (5-8) with four runs and a RBI.
In the circle, Scott and Parker struck out 13 in 13.0 innings of work and gave up four hits, one run, one earned run, and one walk for a 0.54 ERA.
Weather permitting, Fresno State hosts Saint Mary's at 6:00 pm on Wednesday before entertaining UNLV in a three-game WAC series on Friday, April 2 (single game, 7:00 pm) and Saturday (1:00 pm).
