Albquerque, N.M. - The top-seeded Fresno State women's tennis team defeated eighth-seed and defending Western Athletic Conference champion BYU, 5-0, today at the 1999 Western Athletic Conference Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Bulldogs improved their record to 20-6 overall and 5-0 against WAC opponents.
Dora Djilianova improved her singles record to 36-8 overall and 21-3 record in dual matches with a 6-4, 6-1 win over BYU's Gee Gee Gervin. Djilianova is currently on a 15-match win streak dating back to March 13 when she lost to top-ranked Zuzana Lesenarova of San Diego.
The Bulldogs, ranked 21st nationally, will face fifth-seed TCU tomorrow in the semifinals at 8 a.m. Fresno State defeated TCU, 5-4, in a controversial quarterfinal match at last year's WAC Championships. The match was decided at No. 3 doubles when an umpire overruled a TCU out call on match point. The call reversal allowed Fresno State's Kandiss Creighton and Terje Pallo to rally from a 6-5 tiebreaker deficit for a 9-8 (8-6) win.
