Fresno, Calif. - The 19th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team defeated the University of Nevada, 8-1, at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center today. The Bulldogs improved to 14-4 overall despite the absence of 10th-ranked Dora Djilianova, who received the day off.
In singles, senior Shana Peete moved into the No. 1 position and defeated Ana Bihler of Nevada, 6-2, 6-0. Playing in her first dual match of the season, senior Terje Pallo made quick work of Nevadas Brooke Mundey, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. After losing three consecutive matches and being hampered by injury, freshman Kim Niggemeyer got back on track with a 6-2, 7-5, victory over the Wolf Packs Carol Evans at No. 2.
Nevada received its lone point of the day from Bihler and Mundey at No. 2 doubles. The Nevada duo defeated Pallo and junior Kandiss Creighton, 9-7. The Bulldogs did, however, earn points at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Niggemeyer and junior partner Renee Kops-Jones won a 9-8 marathon against Evans and Kodee Domingo of Nevada, 9-8 (7-3), at No.1 and freshman Chantel Wiggins and Peete defeated Innes Zouabi and Kelle Sutton of Nevada, 8-1.
