Womens Tennis Back On Track With Win Over UC Irvine

Fresno, Calif. - The 19th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team defeated UC Irvine, 6-3, today at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno, Calif. The Bulldogs improved their record to 13-4 overall and 8-0 at home this season.
Freshman Chantel Wiggins (Fresno) started the scoring with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over UC Irvines Carla Nasca at No. 6. Fresno State extended its lead after senior Dora Djilianova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) defeated Darian Chappell of UC Irvine, 6-0, 6-3. Fresno State avoided entering doubles tied at 3-3 thanks to junior Kandiss Creighton's (Weldon, Calif.) 6-7, 6-2, 6-2, victory over the Anteaters' Nickole Kabe at No. 4.
Fresno State clinched the match with a victory by Djilianova and junior Renee Kops-Jones (Fresno) at No. 1. The Fresno State duo defeated Chappell and Jonni Seymour of UC Irvine, 8-4.
Fresno State will return to action on Sunday, April 4, against Nevada at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The match begins at 9 a.m.
