Fresno, Calif. - Sophomore Angel Hines had a career-best 14 rebounds and junior Tiffany Lewis shot 1.000 (7-7) from the floor as Fresno State (7-10; 2-2) defeated BYU (9-7; 3-1) Thursday in Fresno.
Both teams kept each other within striking range in the first half as the lead changed hands four times and the game was tied five times during the first 20 minutes. The Bulldogs had as much as an eight-point lead in the first half, thanks in large part to a 13-point performance by senior Connie Krueger, but the Cougars managed to go ahead by one, 33-32 at the break.
In the second half Lewis, who had taken only one shot in the first half, found her groove as she went 6-6, including the game-clinching layup with :14 left on the clock. Lewis ended the game with her ninth double-double of the season (15 pts., 10 rebounds) in only 21 minutes of play. Senior Jessie Farias also chalked up a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists. In all the Dogs had four players in double figures (Krueger: 16 and Amanda Baker: 12).
