Fresno, Calif. - Five Utah players scored in double figures and the Bulldogs shot only 33% from the field as the Utes defeated the Bulldogs, 76-50, today in Fresno. The 'Dogs drop to 7-11 overall, 2-3 in the WAC. Prior to today's game Fresno State was 3-0 at home in 1999.
Fresno State kept things close early and even had a 17-15 lead with 11 minutes left in the half on a driving layup by Danielle Graham. Utah knotted things up at 20 and then went on a 19-3 run to take a commanding 41-23 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.
Things did not get better for the 'Dogs after the half when sophomore Angel Hines fouled out with 15:14 left in the game. Fresno State would only get as close as 20 in the second half as Utah continued to pull away, bolstered by a four three-point performance by Erin Gibbons.
Junior Tiffany Lewis led the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 and in rebounding with 11. Connie Krueger added nine points and Jessie Farias dished out six assists.
The 'Dogs now hit the road for two tough matches as they face Hawaii on Thursday and San Diego State on Saturday. Their next home match will be February 11 against UTEP at 7 p.m.
