Fresno, Calif. - The Bank of America/U.S. Olympic Cup, which will be held Sept. 9-12 at five venues in the San Diego area, will have a Bulldog flavor this fall.
The Bank of America/U.S. Olympic Cup will showcase five sports: womens basketball, mens and womens beach volleyball, boxing, mens and womens swimming and womens softball.
"This will be an exciting competition for our athletes," USOC Executive Director Dick Schultz said. "Some of the best athletes in the U.S. will compete against outstanding international athletes in this inaugural event. It will be a great test for all of these outstanding athletes leading up to Sydney and the 2000 Games."
On the USA Womens Basketball squad, Fresno States head womens basketball coach Britt King is an assistant coach. She recently helped Team USA to a silver medal at the World Games in Spain last weekend.
On the USA Womens Softball team, former Bulldogs Laura Berg, Julie Smith and Shelly Stokes will represent Fresno State. Amanda Scott, a senior to be, is currently with the USA elite team after garnering a gold medal at the Canada Cup last week. Scott is on tour with Team USA and will likely compete in the Pan Am Games at the end of the month.
Tickets are currently on sale for the Bank of America/U.S. Olympic Cup and may be purchased through Ticketmaster at (619) 220-8497 or via its web site at www.ticketmaster.com.
