Fresno State Volleyball Opens Tournament With a Win

San Francisco, Calif. - Winning its second match in the last five and No. 800 in the program's 29-year history, Fresno State needed just little over one hour to pick up a three-game sweep over CS Fullerton in the first match of the USF/Golden Gate Classic. The Bulldogs, who improved the series lead to 16-3 against the Titans, was led by senior OH Anamie Buckelew. Buckelew tied for match high honors in kills (12) while adding seven digs and one total block. Defensively, junior OH Malia Malu had a team-high 11 digs and sophomore MB Shauna McQuaid had a career-high four block solos and added two block assists, she also posted nine kills. With the win, Fresno State improves to 3-5 on the year. The Bulldogs will close out tournament play with Penn at 1:00 pm and host San Francisco at 7:00 pm on Saturday, Sept. 18.
