Baseball Alumni Day to Feature Many Major Leaguers

FRESNO, Calif. - Seven players from Major League Baseball and six minor leaguers highlight this year's Fresno State Alumni Day roster. In its 21st year, the game is scheduled to take place at Beiden Field on Sat., Jan. 22. It pits former Bulldog baseball players against the current Fresno State team.
Former Bulldogs Mark Gardner (San Francisco), Tom Goodwin (Colorado), Bobby Jones (New York-NL), Dennis Springer (free agent), Jeff Weaver (Detroit), Jason Wood (Pittsburgh) and Eddie Zosky (free agent) headline a squad that will feature a total of 13 professional players.
Minor leaguers Giuseppe Chiarmonte (San Francisco), Matt Curtis (free agent), Craig Daluz (Detroit), Randy Goodrich (San Francisco), Adam Pettyjohn (Detroit) and Casey Rowe (Detroit) will join the major leaguers in what will be tune up for the 2000 season for both the alumni and the current Fresno State players.
The alumni will be looking to extend their two-game winning streak after dropping the first 18 games of the series to the Bulldogs. Last year, the alumni squad defeated Fresno State, 8-6. They were led by Zosky, who went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.
Prior to the Alumni Game, former Bulldog players will square off against one another in the Old-Timers Game.
First pitch in the five-inning Old-Timer's Game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The younger alumni will square off against the 2000 Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. in a nine-inning tilt. Admission is free, but the Dugout Club will be accepting donations at the Beiden Field gates.
Fresno State opens the 2000 season against consensus preseason No. 1 Stanford on Jan. 28.
