Bulldogs drop heartbreaker in walk-off fashion at San Jose State

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs jumped on the board immediately when Sky Collins tripled to open the game and later scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. San Jose State answered in the bottom half with a solo home run from Peyton Rowles to even the score.
Fresno State regained the advantage in the second inning after Zach Plasschaert doubled and Austin Young drove him in with a double to right center. Young later scored on a Collins RBI single, putting the Bulldogs ahead 3-1.
The Spartans responded with two runs in the second inning on a Rocco Caballero two-run double to tie the game, then added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to take a 5-3 lead. Fresno State answered in the eighth with its biggest rally of the night. Griffen Sotomayor and Ryan Delamaza drew walks before Jett Ruby added another free pass to load the bases. Collins delivered a two-out, bases-clearing double to left center to give Fresno State a 6-5 advantage.
San Jose State immediately countered in the bottom of the eighth as Rohne Klein hit a game-tying solo homer to center field. The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead in the ninth when Marcus Nolen launched a two-run homer to left field after a San Jose State error allowed Mikey Pickett to reach.
The Spartans had one final response in the bottom of the ninth. JC Osorio-Agard tied the game with a solo home run before Anthony Scheppler lined a walk-off RBI double to right center to score Neil Jansen and secure the 9-8 victory.
Collins led Fresno State offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with four RBIs, a triple, double and stolen base. Nolen added a home run and three RBIs while Young recorded two hits and an RBI.
Moose Cuellar started for the Bulldogs and struck out four over five innings. Drew Townson was charged with the loss after allowing two runs in the ninth inning.
