FRESNO, Calif. - SMU lived up to its billing as one of the top teams in the Western Athletic Conference, shooting 54 percent en route to a 86-50 victory over Fresno State at the North Gym. The Bulldogs fall to 8-9 (1-2 WAC) with the loss. The Mustangs improve to 11-5 (4-0).
SMU took control of the game from the beginning, leading 18-10 at the 10 minute mark. Fresno State hung in, however, and trailed by only nine at half. But the Mustangs high-flying offense took off in the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 30-4 in one 10 minute stretch, eventually handing FS its worst home loss since the 1976-77 season.
One positive to come out of the game for Fresno State was the return of Laura Garcia, who had 12 points. She sat out Thursday's win over TCU with a sprained ankle suffered in practice on Monday. She came off the bench to play 30 minutes.
Amanda Baker led the Bulldogs with 16 points. For the fourth consecutive game, Lindsay Logan played all 40 minutes. She has now played 150 consecutive minutes dating back to the Saint Mary's game on Jan. 8.
FS hits the road next week to take on Rice on Thursday and Tulsa on Saturday. The Bulldogs next home game is Thu., Feb. 3, against San Jose State.
