FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State began official practice with a two and a half hour session on Saturday at the North Gymnasium. The team participated in skill and conditioning drills in preparation for the first exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 9.
The Bulldogs returnees, Lindsay Logan, Laura Garcia, Tiffany Simon, Channan High and Omelogo Udeze and Laura Paukert, look to improve on last year's 11-18 (4-10 WAC) record. They will receive help from a recruiting class consisting of Chantea Fleming, Annie Fagundes, Mindy Clark and Devon Crosby-Helms. The class was ranked among the 50 best in the nation by Women's Basketball Journal.
One of the highlights of practice was the return of Paukert, who missed the entire 1999-00 season after she ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in a preseason conditioning drill. The year-long rehabilitation culminated in yesterday's practice, in which she did not wear a knee brace.
The Bulldogs open their season playing Eastern Washington in the second game of the Fresno State Classic on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 3 p.m.
