Fichtbauer Ousted From ITA Northwest Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - Senior Liesl Fichtbauer was defeated by No. 1 seed Laura Granville of Stanford 6-4, 7-5 in the quarterfinal round of the main singles draw Sunday at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.
Fichtbauer, the tourney's No. 8 seed, was the only Bulldog remaining in the tournament. She had previously beaten Washington State's Anna Dybicz, California's Lisa Swerniak and No. 9 seed Christiane Barthel before falling to Granville, who advanced to the semifinals along with teammate Gabriela Lastra.
Junior Simone Jardim and freshman Courtney Jantz recorded two victories before falling in their third round matches. Junior Ewa Grusiecka and sophomore Kelly Ramirez each won their first round match and lost their second round matches. Junior Chantel Wiggins earned a first round bye and then lost in the second round. All-American junior Kim Niggemeyer, the tournament's No. 4 seed, retired in her second round match after a first round bye.
All three Fresno State doubles teams were eliminated in their second round matches.
