Spring Football Drills Begin for Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif. - The defending WAC champion Fresno State Bulldogs will begin their month-long session of spring football on Monday, March 20, with an afternoon practice at the Fresno State practice facility at 4 p.m.
"Our players are excited about the start of spring practice," Fresno State Coach Pat Hill said. "This is something we've pointed toward since the Las Vegas Bowl. We have some young players who are anxious to show the coaches what they can do and as a coaching staff, this is a time when we can give some individual attention to players. This is a time when we can coach with no other distractions and a time when we can accomplish a lot to prepare for the upcoming season."
The 'Dogs will have 15 practice sessions, including three scrimmages and the annual spring game, which will be played April 14 at 6 p.m. at the practice facility. Two scrimmages will be held at area high schools. The first scrimmage is Saturday, March 25, at Hanford High School and the second will be Saturday, April 1, at Bakersfield High School.
Fresno State finished the 1999 season with an 8-5 overall record and 5-2 Western Athletic Conference mark. The 'Dogs earned their first conference title and bowl appearance since 1993 last season. Fresno State lost to Utah 17-16 in the EA Sports Las Vegas Bowl.
The Bulldogs will open the 2000 season at Ohio State on Sept. 2. The home opener is Sept. 23 versus California.
