The Unexpected Surprises

Sophomore third baseman Lindsay Fossatti never thought she would be playing for the Fresno State softball team. As a senior at Foothill High School, she was planning other recruiting trips when she received a phone call from coach Margie Wright.
"Getting that call was a total shock. I had noticed Fresno State's `big time' program throughout high school but it never crossed my mind that I could be playing here," Fossatti said.
When Fossatti came to Fresno in 1998 she immediately loved the school, teammates, coaches and program.
In her first season as a Bulldog, Fossatti worked her way into the starting line up at third base and was named to the first-team All-Western Athletic Conference and All-West Region. "Last year I was given the opportunity to play and I took advantage of it. I had put in my time and I knew I was capable of the job," Fossatti said.
Fossatti's success has carried over to this season as she is third on the team in stolen bases, second in slugging percentage and fourth in RBI. "Our offense took a while to get started but now everything is falling into place," Fossatti said.
Fossatti has had a love for the game of softball since she was five years old. Countless summers were spent playing travel ball and the dream of playing in college was always on her mind. "I have always wanted to play in college, I can't imagine my life without playing softball," Fossatti said.
Her parents Bill and Gale are huge sports fans and are currently splitting their cheerleading time between Lindsay and her sister Courtney. Courtney is a junior at Foothill High School and is also looking forward to playing softball at the college level.
"My parents have always been supportive of me in my decisions. I was able to make my own choices of what I did and where I went to college," Fossatti said. "They were excited about Fresno State but it was my decision."
Fossatti can not believe that the end of this season will mark the midpoint of her college career. After Fresno State she wants to pursue a career in physical therapy and hopefully go back to live in Orange County. "This career will include sports which has always been a huge part of my life. I can't ever imagine my life without athletics," Fossatti said.
As for the rest of this season she is enjoying another season as a Bulldog. "Everything has definitely worked out for the best," Fossatti said.
