FRESNO, Calif. - No. 6 Fresno State picked up its third straight Western Athletic Conference shutout victory over Tulsa with a five-inning 8-0 win over the Golden Hurricane to push its league record to 15-2.
Fresno State exploded for seven runs in the first two innings with a four-run first and a three-run second before ending the game in the bottom of the fifth. Senior right-hander Amanda Scott (31-3) picked up her 26th shutout while limiting Tulsa to three hits and striking out nine.
Approaching the 300 strikeout plateau with 292 on the season (829 in career), Scott has won her last 18 starts with 15 of those coming via shutout. Striking out 10+ batters in six of her last 10 starts, she has not given up an earned run in last 121.1 innings - 4.2 innings shy of tying her school-record mark of 126.0 set last year. She now also boasts a current scoreless streak of 48.0 innings. Offensively, four Bulldogs recorded multiple-hits and they were led by sophomore left fielder Kristen Hunter who went 3-3 with two runs and three RBI while posting two triples.
Sophomore second baseman Lovie Jung went 2-4 with a RBI and also notched a triple. Sophomore third baseman Lindsay Fossatti went 2-3 and scored two runs and posted her eighth double on the year. In addition, junior centerfielder Becky Witt went 2-3 with two runs and moves into sole possession of No. 3 in career runs at Fresno State.
Fresno State collected its other three RBI from Scott (0-2, run), senior first baseman Angela Cervantez (1-3), and junior shortstop Alicia Dowland (1-3). Fresno State tied the school's single-game mark in triples (3) - the seventh time overall in the program's history (last time was against Bowling Green State, March 26, 1996). The Bulldogs notched their 13th 50-win season in the program's history with their 50th win in today's victory.
