FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic conference released its 2000 all-league softball teams and postseason awards Friday and senior Amanda Scott (Clovis, Calif.) was named the Pitcher of the Year for the third consecutive season.
Scott's award, selected by the league's head coaches, was no surprise. She was absolutely dominant this season in the WAC with a perfect 9-0 record. She became the first player in WAC history to finishe the conference slate with a 0.00 ERA. Scott also led the league in innings pitched (61.2) and strikeouts (85). At the plate in WAC games, Scott hit .232 (13-for-66), scoring 10 runs and adding seven RBIs. During her four-year career in WAC games, SCott has compiled a 44-1 record in 292.2 innings pitched to go along with six saves, 27 shutouts, 296 strikeouts and 16 earned runs for a 0.38 ERA. Scott is the WAC's all-time leader (all games) in RBI (212), wins (104), saves (10), strikeouts (829) and ranks second in innings pitched (845.1).
The Bulldogs also garnered four more All-WAC selections. Junior centerfielder Becky Witt (Reseda, Calif.) earned her third all-conference selection, second first-team honor. Sophomores Lovieanne Jung (Westminister, Calif.) and Lindsay Fossatti (Tustin, Calif.) and senior Angela Cervantez (Madera, Calif.) are repeat All-WAC performers as well.
