Fresno State Softball Hands Out Postseason Team Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's softball handed out its postseason awards and seven different Bulldogs took home team honors after a 54-14 season that saw Fresno State capture its 19th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and third straight Western Athletic Conference championship title.
Senior RHP/OF Amanda Scott (Clovis) snagged her third straight Most Valuable Player award. Setting six single-season school records and four Fresno State career marks in pitching, Scott was a Honda Award Softball finalist for the second straight year. Also establishing six (out of seven) Western Athletic Conference career marks, Scott went 33-5 on the season with 34 complete games,27 shutouts, four saves and 314 strikeouts in 276.0 innings for a 0.41 ERA.
Ranked in the NCAA's top 10 in win percentage (No. 7, .855, 106-18), wins (No. 10, 106) and shutouts (No. 10, 68) Scott is Fresno State's first four-time NCAA First Team All-American. Having been selected at the Women's Professional Softball League's No. 1 draft pick, Scott concluded her career as the NCAA ERA statistical champion for the second straight season. Averaging a 27-5 record per season in her career, Scott went 44-1 in WAC play during her four-year career and appeared in the NCAA stats every week (36 straight) since March 30, 1997 in pitching and hitting.
Scott batted .303 in her career and posted a career ERA of 0.55 with 851 strikeouts and 10 saves while being the first Bulldog pitcher ever to amass 800 or more strikeouts and the second Bulldog ever to reach the 100 career win plateau.
The Golden Glove award went to junior outfielder Becky Witt (Reseda). Witt is the second outfielder ever to capture this award (joining Olympian Laura Berg). With a career batting average of .378 and already ranking in five top 10 all-time career marks at Fresno State, Witt led the team in hits (84), runs (43) and stolen bases (12) while finishing second in batting (.377) and total bases (95).
The Coaches' Award went to sophomore third baseman Lindsay Fossatti (Tustin). Batting nearly .400 in her last 18 games, Fossatti finished second on the team in walks (16) while adding three-game winnings hits on the season. The Inspirational Award was given to sophomore right fielder Vanessa Czarnecki (Riverside). Czarnecki scored at least one run in 16 of the last 32 games and turned a double play from right field. The Bulldog Achievement Award went to junior shortstop Alicia Dowland (La Palma). Batting .353 in the month of May, Dowland turned 11 double plays and finished fifth on the team in RBI (22). The Most Improved award was given to freshman catcher Pam West (Corona). West started all 68 games behind the plate and threw out 13 baserunners - the most thrown out since 1994 when former Bulldog standout Christa Yorke threw out 20.
The Clutch Hitter Award went to sophomore second baseman Lovie Jung (Westminster). Jung repeated as a NCAA Third Team All-America selection at second base. She hit .391 this past season and had a team-high 14 doubles. Jung scored 41 runs, had four triples, home run, seven stolen bases, 34 RBI and 106 total bases as a sophomore. For the second straight season the two-time All-WAC, All-West Region and NCAA All-Regional selection tallied more than 100 total bases.
The Career Achievement Award went to Scott and senior first baseman Angela Cervantez (Madera). Cervantez finished her career with a .324 batting average and set the school's and the WAC's career mark in doubles (55). The Eva Wright Memorial Award was given to team manager Randi Berg.
