The 1999-00 women's basketball season was one of the young growing older and the inexperienced cutting their teeth in the collegiate game. Of the eight players on the Bulldogs roster during the season, five were freshmen, all of whom saw significant playing time and contributed 55 percent of the offense. In the end, several lights of promise emerged on a team that finished its season 11-18.
Perhaps the brightest of those lights was freshman Lindsay Logan. The Sandy, Utah, native became the first player in the history of the Western Athletic Conference to win the assists crown. Logan did so by racking up 192, the most in FS history and the fourth-most in the history of the conference. The rookie also was the only Bulldog to start in all 29 games and led the WAC in minutes per game with a 37.0 average. For her efforts, Logan was named to the WAC All-Newcomer team.
Senior Tiffany Lewis also left her mark on the season, her last in a Fresno State uniform. The team co-captain had a rebound average of 9.0 per game and successfully defending her rebounding title, and in so doing became the fourth consecutive Bulldog to win the rebounding crown, following Janee Young (1996-97 and 1997-98) and her own title last year. Lewis led the squad with a 12.5 scoring average and posted 11 double-doubles. She led the team in scoring in 11 games and in rebounds in 19 games. She was named second-team All-WAC and to the WAC All-Defensive team.
Despite the team's 11-18 finish, the future looks very bright for Britt King's team. Not only is the core of the 1999-00 Bulldogs returning, but a recruiting class which has been tabbed as 50th best in the nation by Women's Basketball Journal will land on campus for the 2000-01 season. As of July 1, six players had been inked to play for Fresno State next year - 6-4 center Destiny Holford (Bakersfield, Calif./West), 6-3 center Mindy Clark (La Habra, Calif./Sonora), 6-1 guard/forward Devon Crosby-Helms (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt), 6-1 guard/forward Chantea Fleming (San Bernardino, Calif./Ayala), 6-0 guard/forward LaToya Bristow (San Diego, Calif./Vista) and 5-8 guard Annie Fagundes (Atwater, Calif./Atwater). Five of the six players coming in next year are over 6-feet tall. Only two of FS's returning players were over six feet.
