SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Fresno State tallied its fourth win of the season as it defeated the Gaels of Saint Mary's Sunday, Sept. 17, with a score of 2-1.
In their final match of the University of San Diego Classic this weekend, the Bulldogs finished the classic with a record of 1-1. Saint Mary's scored the first goal of the match with a goal by midfielder Alex Monsalve at the 13-minute mark. Fresno State senior midfielder Danny Risch (Clovis)put one in the bottom right corner from a pass by teammate, senior midfielder Jose Pacheco (Fresno)in the 34th minute. The score remained tied at one for the remainder of the first half and 20 minutes into the second. Pacheco ensured the victory when he connected on a pass from junior midfielder Noah Delgado (Fremont) to net the game-winning goal and push the score to 2-1. Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Heisser (Pleasanton) recorded his first win of the season, as he tallied seven saves in the victory.
Fresno State's record improves to 4-1 while Saint Mary's drops to 2-4 on the season. The Bulldogs look ahead to next weekend when they travel to the University of Massachusetts for the UMass Tournament. They face Hartford on Friday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. and continue play on Sunday, Sept. 24, with a match against UMass at 1 p.m.
