Bulldogs Net Four in 4-2 Victory Over Xavier

The Fresno State Bulldogs finished the 19th Annual Nike Goal Rush Classic with a 4-2 victory over Xavier this afternoon at Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs improve their record to 2-0 on the season.
Xavier took the lead early with a goal by junior midfielder Andy Crouch at the 25-minute mark. The `Dogs squeezed in the tying goal before the end of the first-half when junior forward Derek Lopez (Fresno) connected off of a pass from sophomore midfielder Kupono Low (Fremont) at 44 minutes. Xavier managed to score one goal at the 66-minute mark to take the lead again. However, the second half was dominated by Fresno State as they scored three goals within 10 minutes to seal the win. Senior midfielder Dana McGregor (Arroyo Canyon) assisted twice on goals by junior midfielder Danny Risch (Clovis) and Low. Senior forward Ron Davis (Lake Forest) scored the final goal of the match with just under 12 minutes to play.
The Bulldogs outshot the Xavier Musketeers 27-9 in 90 minutes of play and sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Proud tallied four saves before fellow freshman goalkeeper Matthew Heisser (Pleasanton) stepped in to finish the match.
Fresno State men's soccer looks forward to its next matchup against the Matadors of Cal State Northridge this Sunday, Sept. 10, at 5:30 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium.
