Bulldogs Bring it Home
The `Dogs will be bringing competition home for the first time in more than a month. Fresno State will host an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association show on Saturday and Sunday. The Bulldogs will face off against eight other schools, including Stanford, Cal Poly, Nevada, UC-Davis, Sierra Nevada, Bakersfield, Reedley and San Luis Obispo. The show is an English-only show and starts at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday. Home shows are held at the Student Horse Center, weather permitting. In case of rain, the show would be moved into the inside ring at the Ag Pavilion at the corner of Woodrow and Barstow.
Qualified for Regionals
The Bulldogs have already had five Western and seven English riders qualify for the Regional Finals, which will be hosted by Fresno State on March 24-25. The riders accumulate points over the season and must reach a certain total to qualify to compete in events for the finals. Qualified in the Western events are, senior Brenn Burtch (Bakersfield, Calif.) in Advanced Stock Seat, senior Kalli Bowles (Elk Grove, Calif.), senior Lindsay Cummings (Hailey, Idaho), junior Dana VanDerGiessen (Jerome, Idaho) and senior Heather Hogancamp (Santa Ana, Calif.) in the Intermediate Stock seat. English riders that have qualified are, junior Krista Preckel (San Diego, Calif.) in the Intermediate Fences, junior Kristin Darrell (Livermore, Calif.) and senior Kim Dellar (Coarsegold, Calif.) in the Novice Flat, senior Ida Ridgeway (Abilene, Texas) in the Walk/Trot, sophomore Michaela Mathis (Lemoore, Calif.) in the Novice Fences and in Walk/Trot/Canter senior Shari Heitkotter (Fresno, Calif.) and junior Stephanie Reeves (Menlo Park, Calif.). All of these riders who have qulified are guaranteed to compete in these events and are able to qualify to compete in other events. A number of other riders are on the verge and are expected to get the points they need at this weekend's show.
`Dogs Dominate in Davis
Both the English and Western teams swept the show at UC-Davis claiming the High Point honors. With the win at Davis, Fresno State is now in the lead of the Regional Standings. The English team finished with a total of 35 points and the High Point English rider. Kalli Bowles took first place in the Novice Fences and second in the Intermediate Flat. Top finishes were also taken by senior Sarah Woodward (Fresno, Calif.) in section A of the Open Flat, junior Dawn Crawford (Yucaipa, Calif.) in the Intermediate Fences, sophomore Abigail Brauner (Cupertino, Calif) in section B of the Novice Flat and freshman Christa Brown (Agoura Hills, Calif.) in section B of the Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter. The Western team finished with 15 point and both the High Point and Reserve High Point Western riders. Junior Kendra McQueen (Stockdale, Calif.) took High Point and the Reserve rider was junior Rena Miller (Oakhurst, Calif.). Top Western finishes were also claimed by Brenn Burtch in the Advanced II Equitation, senior Willow Wakeland (Stockton, Calif.) in the Intermediate II Equitation section B and senior Katey Woelfl (Los Gatos Calif.) in the Intermediate II Equitation section A.
