Niggemeyer On Fire in All-American Championship

FRESNO, Calif. - Kim Niggemeyer, a senior two-time ITA All-American, defeated Jennifer McGaffigan of Illinois 6-2, 6-1 in the second round held this morning before going on to beat Duke's No. 8 Amanda Johnson 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinal.
Niggemeyer, who has yet to lose a set in three matches, will face Florida's No. 6 Jessica Lehnhoff in the semifinal tomorrow at 10 a.m. Lehnhoff, a senior three-time ITA All-American, is also making her first semifinal singles appearance at a national tournament. Lehnoff (assisted by Whitney Laiho) won the NCAA doubles title last season.
The other singles participant, Chloe Carlotti, fell to Georgia's Mariel Verban 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.
The Bulldogs also advance to the semifinals in doubles. Simone Jardim/Kim Niggemeyer defeated Stanford's Lauren Barnikow/Erin Burdette 8-6 in the quarterfinal. They are set to play Linda Faltynova/Katarzyna Koldynska of Oklahoma State following the singles semifinals tomorrow.
The Riviera Women's Championship (and the Men's All-American Championship currently being held in Stone Mountain, Georgia) are the first of the three major national championships in collegiate tennis, the other two being the Nov. 8-11 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and the NCAA tournament that is held at the end of the season in May.
