Bulldog flanker Vince Wesson caught a 2-yard pass from Jeff Tedford in the endzone to tie the game 28-28. The Bulldogs pushed ahead 29-28 when kicker Scott Darrow sent fans into a victory frenzy booting the extra point through the uprights.
The dramatic ending was the result of a slow Bulldogs start as the 'Dogs went scoreless until the third quarter. The Falcons however had no trouble jumping into the lead finding the endzone twice before the first half ended.
Trialing by 21, the Bulldogs awoke to the roar of Fresno State fans and proceeded to find their mark on the scoreboard. With an 11-yard pass to Stephone Paige from Jeff Tedford and the extra point from Scott Barrow, the 'Dogs cut the Falcon lead to 14.
The Falcons did not let the 'Dogs back in the game without a fight scoring another goal off a fumble recovery by Potts before the third period expired. The quarter is not the only thing that expired however, so had the Falcon scoring summary.
The remaining 15-minutes contained a Bulldog scoring spree beginning with an 80-yard series resulting in a four-yard run by Paige into the endzone. With the score now Bowling Green 28, Fresno State 14, the 'Dogs set out to find two more TDs.
Setting up on the Falcon 27-yard line, Tedford connected with Paige up the middle who evaded defenders and scored. Playing the odds, the 'Dogs completed a two-point conversion off a pass from Tedford to Terry Carter.
Trailing now by six, with game time steadily dropping from 3:16, the 'Dogs went into what would come to be a 44-yard series of seven plays, a Bowling Green facemask penalty and a Fresno State win with only 11 seconds remaining.
Paige set a school record with 246 yards receiving and tied another with 15 receptions. Tedford tied a school record with 373 yards in passing and set a single game record with 31 completions.
