#7 Softball Completes Doubleheader Sweep Over Southern Utah

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 7 Fresno State (16-4) posted its second doubleheader sweep with a 4-0 shutout win over Southern Utah (6-15) in the nightcap.
The Bulldogs jumped on the board quickly and efficiently with a three-run first inning before adding another run in the second.
In the first, Becky Witt led off with a single to left field. Tiffany Whipple then walked. With Lori Hoffman flying out to the shortstop, Lindsay Fossatti knocked in a run with a RBI single into left field to score Witt. Pam Perez then followed with a single to left field to load the bases. Alicia Dowland then reached base on a fielder's choice and collected a RBI as Whipple crossed the plate. Pam West then knocked in a run with a shot to left field to score Perez.
In the second with one out, Czarnecki got on base with an infield bunt to third. Witt then reached base on an error by the SUU second baseman and both base runners moved up an extra base as the second baseman stood with the ball in hand arguing a call with the umpire. With Tiffany Whipple fouling out to right field, Witt and Czarnecki pulled off a double steal as Czarnecki scored the Bulldogs fourth run.
Leslie Poole tossed her fourth shutout win as she tossed a four-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts to improve to 9-2 on the season.
Fresno State heads off to the Kia Klassic this weekend at CS Fullerton with match ups against #14 Notre Dame, #5 Oklahoma and Utah State in pool play.
