Baseball Blows Past Nevada 19-6

RENO, Nev. - Fresno State scored ten runs in the top of the fifth to give themselves a 10-2. Brad Harper, Dan Young and Matt Creighton each hit a home run in the game to assist Fresno State in their dominant victory over Nevada.
WAC Pitcher of the Week Zach Minor got his third win of the season improving his record to 3-1. Minor struck out five Nevada batters during his 7 2/3 innings of work. Jason Mackintosh was credited for the loss for the Wolf Pack dropping his record to 2-3. Nevada got out to an early lead over the Bulldogs when they scored one run in the second and one in the fourth giving the Wolf Pack a 2-0 lead. Alex Rangel singled in the bottom of the second to score JaRell McIntyre. In the bottom of the fourth, Matt Maguire hit a double to score Tony Cappuculli giving Nevada a 2-0 at the end of four.
The two run Nevada lead was short lived, thanks to a 10 run Bulldog top of the fifth. Brad Harper led off with a home run and two batters later Dan Young belted a home run tying the game at 2-2. The following two batters Tom Creighton and Oscar Lopez singled. Brandon Gemoll walked to load the bases for Casey McGehee. He stepped to the plate and singled to score Creighton and Lopez and advance Gemoll to third. Josh Labandeira hit a fielder's choice that scored Gemoll. While the pitcher was trying to regroup Labandeira stole second and Christian Hallaian walked putting runners on first and second for Harper's second at bat in the inning. Harper singled scoring McGehee and Labandeira giving Fresno State an 8-2 lead, but the Bulldogs were not done. The following two batters Matt Creighton walked to load the bases and Young walked to score Hallaian. Tom Creighton hit a sacrifice fly into center field to score Harper. Lopez then singled to score Matt Creighton, and at the end of the top of the fifth the Bulldogs led the Wolf Pack 10-2.
In the top of the sixth, Oscar Lopez hit his fourth double of the season to score Young and increasing the Bulldog lead to 11-2.
Fresno State added two more runs in the top of the eighth, when Matt Creighton hit his first home run of the season over the left field wall scoring Tony Guzman and giving the Bulldogs a 13-2 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Wolf Pack scored three runs to cut the Fresno State lead to 12-5.
The Bulldogs added six more runs in the top of the ninth to put the game away for good. Tom Creighton led off the inning with a single and four batters later Labandiera singled to score Tom Creighton and Gemoll. The following batter Guzman singled to score McGehee. Harper then hit a double to score Labandeira and Matt Creighton hit a sacrifice fly into center filed to score Guzman. Dan Young then stepped to the plate and hit a double to score Harper for the Bulldogs final run of the game giving Fresno State a 19-5 lead entering the bottom of the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth, Nevada scored one run giving the Bulldogs a 19-6 victory. Fresno State improves it record to 12-5 overall, and 6-1 in the WAC, while Nevada falls to 5-11 overall, and 2-5 in the WAC.
First pitch Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m. at William Peccole Park on the campus of the University of Nevada.
