Runyon Earns WAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week Honors

DENVER - Nevada outfielder/DH Bo Bryant and Fresno State right-handed pitcher Bob Runyon have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 12-18.
Bryant, a senior from Yorba Linda, Calif. (Esperanza HS), hit .462 (6-13) in four games as the Wolf Pack went 3-1 last week with a victory over UNLV and two of three versus Hawai'i-Hilo. Bryant hit five home runs, drove in 10 and scored six runs in the three games against the Vulcans after a 0-for-3 outing versus UNLV. Of his six hits, five were home runs and the other was a two RBI single. He had two home runs in the second and third games against Hawai'i-Hilo. His slugging percentage against the Vulcans was 2.100.
Runyon, a junior from Atwater, Calif. (Merced), was named to the Pepsi Johnny Quik All-Tournament team in Fresno after picking up two victories last week. On Tuesday, he pitched a complete game against New Mexico, giving up three runs (one earned), striking out nine and walking three. On Saturday, he came into the Illinois game in relief and pitched four scoreless innings with two strike outs and one hit to earn his second win. Fresno State finished in third place at the tournament.
Other player of the week nominations included: junior catcher Brad Harper, Fresno State, senior outfielder Brian Rooke, Hawai'i-Hilo, freshman left fielder Austin Davis, Rice, and senior outfielder Rudy Rivera, TCU.
Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: sophomore Darrell Rasner, Nevada, and senior Jeff Nichols, Rice.
