Baseball Tames Pacific Tigers 8-2

FRESNO, Calif. - Ben Fritz, Beau Hintz and Nick Moran combined to strike out 10 Pacific batters en route to the Bulldogs 20th win this season. Hintz was awarded the victory improving his record to 2-4 on the season, while Joey Myers went 3-for-4 with three RBI and stroked his first home run of the season in the top of the second.
Fresno State took an early four run lead in the top of the second thanks to a pair of home runs by Matt Creighton and Myers. With Casey McGehee on first and one out Matt Creighton hit his second home run of the season to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. The following batter Tobey Riday-White hit a shot to the short stop that he bounced passed the first baseman on the throw. Joey Myers stepped to the plate and hit his first home run of the season giving Fresno State a 4-0 lead entering the bottom of the second.
The Bulldogs added another run in the top of the sixth when Oscar Lopez singled to score Riday-White.
In the bottom of the sixth, Pacific scored one run to cut the Fresno State lead to four runs.
Fresno State continued the route in the top of the eighth when they added two more runs. McGehee led off the inning with a single and two batters later Myers doubled to score McGehee from second. The following batter Tom Creighton singled to score Myers giving the Bulldogs a 7-1 lead.
Pacific scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth cutting the Fresno State lead to five runs. Richard Hackett hit a solo home run for the Tigers final run of the game.
In the top of the ninth, Fresno State added an insurance run when, with runners on first and second McGehee hit a fielder's choice to score Josh Labandeira. The Bulldogs improve their record to 20-10 on the season with an 8-2 win over Pacific.
Fresno State travels to Houston, Tex. this weekend for a three game series with No.1 Rice.
