Run in Ninth Leads TCU Past Baseball 6-5

FRESNO, Calif. - After tying the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs could not contain the Horned Frogs in the top of the ninth when they scored what turned out to be the winning run giving TCU a 6-5 win over Fresno State. The Bulldogs drop to 28-18 overall and 12-10 in the WAC, while TCU improves their record to 26-18 overall and 16-8 in the WAC heading into game two of the doubleheader.
TCU got out to an early lead over the Bulldogs in the top of the fourth when they scored two runs. Mike Settle doubled to score Justin Crowder and Walter Olmstead giving the Horned Frogs a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. Nick Garcia singled to score Casey McGehee who reached on a fielding error by the TCU second baseman trimming the Frogs lead to one run. Two batters later Dan Young singled to score Garcia tying the game at 2-2.
In the top of the fifth, Tom Bates hit a three run home run over the right center field wall giving the Horned Frogs a 5-2 lead.
Fresno State tied the game in the bottom of the seventh 5-5. Shortstop Josh Labandeira hit a clutch single up the middle to score Tony Guzman and Dan Young cutting the Horned Frogs lead to one run. The following batter Brandon Gemoll hit a high sacrifice fly into center to score Oscar Lopez for the tying run of the game.
The game remained tied until the top of the ninth when Erick Macha singled to score Rudy Rivera for the winning run, to hand the Horned Frogs a 6-5 victory over the Bulldogs.
