FRESNO, Calif. - Senior Josh Labandeira hit a two run bomb in the bottom of fifth that turned out to be the game winning runs for the Bulldogs, before 2,662 in the friendly confines of Pete Beiden Field. First baseman Brandon Gemoll got things started for Fresno State in the bottom of the first when he hit his team leading 17 home run of the season to score the Dog's first two runs of the game. Zach Minor earned the win for the Bulldogs improving his record to 8-3, while Ben Fritz entered the game in relief to post his team leading fifth save of the season
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the first to get out to an early lead over TCU. With the bases loaded and no outs Brandon Gemoll hit his team leading 17 double of the season to score Dan Young and Oscar Lopez. The following batter Casey McGehee grounded out to the first baseman to score Josh Labandeira, and one batter later Brad Harper hit a high sacrifice fly to score Gemoll giving the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead over TCU after one.
The Horned Frogs trimmed the Bulldogs lead to two run in the top of the third. Terry Trofholz doubled to score the Horned Frogs first run of the game, and the following batter Rudy Ontiveros singled to score Trofholz cutting the Fresno State lead to 4-2.
In the bottom of the third, the Diamond Dog's scored one run to increase their lead to three runs. Labandeira hit his 13 double of the season, and the cleanup batter Gemoll singled to score Labandeira giving the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead.
TCU scored two runs in the top of fifth to cut the Fresno State lead to one run. With runners on second and third with no outs Trofholz singled to score one run for the Horned Frogs, and the following batter Ontiveros hit a high fly ball into center to score TCU's final run of the inning and trimming the Fresno State lead to 5-4.
In the bottom of fifth, the Bulldogs responded with two runs of their own. Senior shortstop Labandeira hit his team leading 11 home run of the season, a two run bomb over the right center field wall giving the Bulldogs a 7-4 lead.
TCU added one run in the sixth when Mike Settle hit a solo home run for the Horned Frogs final run of the game giving the Bulldogs a 7-5 win over TCU.
The Bulldogs improved their record to 29-19 overall, and 13-11 in the WAC retaining their third-place position in the WAC. TCU dropped to 27-19 overall, and 17-9 in the WAC holding on to second-place in the WAC.
Fresno State will be back in action Wednesday evening at 7p.m. for a make up game with Santa Clara in the friendly confines of Pete Beiden Field.
