UCLA Sneaks Past Georgia Tech 4-3

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 30 UCLA defeated No. 46 Georgia Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday afternoon in Fresno, Calif. UCLA improves to 8-18, while Georgia Tech finishes at 11-11.
Georgia Tech, the region's No. 33-48 seed, captured the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead. The Yellow Jacket's No. 1 team of Mysti Morris and Bobbi Guthrie upset UCLA's top team of Lauren Fisher and Petya Marinova, ranked No. 18 nationally, 8-5. Georgia Tech also won 8-4 at the No. 3 spot.
UCLA, tabbed as the region's No. 17-32 seed, rallied back to win four of the six singles matches. Marinova's 6-3, 6-4 victory against Georgia Tech's Bobbi Guthrie at No. 4 singles secured the match win for the Bruins. The Bruins also notched singles wins at the Nos. 1, 2 and 5 spots.
The Bruins advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will play the winner of the Fresno State/Cal State Northridge match Sunday at 1 p.m.
