Fresno, Calif. - Equestrian Hosts English Western Show Jan. 19-20
The team will host a two-day event this weekend at the Student Horse Center. It will feature 11 English events on Saturday and seven Western events on Sunday. The team will compete against riders from Stanford, Bakersfield, Cal Poly, Nevada, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz.
Ashley Howard is CSU Fresno's Nominee for the 2002 Campus Compact Award
Senior English rider Ashley Howard (Visalia, Calif.) is nominated for the Campus Compact 2002 Howard R. Swearer Student Humanitarian Award. Howard, a four-year member of the equestrian team, volunteer's for many organizations such as the Marjaree Mason Center and Valley Teen Ranch. The sociology major is a Fresno State Scholar-Athlete and holds a 4.0 GPA. The five recipients of the award will be recognized for Outstanding Public Service and awarded $1500 to support the service program of the student's choice.
Pasadena Rose Parade Welcomes Bulldogs
Several riders from the equestrian team rode in the 113th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade. Nine horses made the journey to Pasadena, Calif. where they also were involved in exhibitions in the days prior to parade. The team was the only varsity horse group to ride in the event. The trip marked the team's second appearance in the parade as they also participated in 1998.
The riders who went to the parade were sophomore Tiffany Washington (Costa Mesa, Calif.), who is the Marshal, sophomore Andrea Crisp (Merced, Calif.), junior Rena Miller (Oakhurst, Calif.), sophomore Shannon Morrison (Fresno, Calif.), junior Kelly Sansom (Clovis, Calif.), sophomore Kristen Spencer (Tollhouse, Calif.), sophomore Michelle Tonello (Santa Paula, Calif.), sophomore Megan Wagner (Fullerton, Calif.), sophomore Emilie Wentworth (Cottonwood, Calif.).
Equestrian Riders Visit Valley Children's Hospital Dec. 20
Riders Lori McPeters (Madera, Calif.) and Nicole Rogers (Fresno, Calif.) with join other Fresno State athletes in association with Athletics Media Relations and the Bulldog Shop to hand out toys to children at Valley Children's Hospital on Dec. 20.
Team Held Toys for Tots Dressage Show on Dec. 15.
The team and the local chapter of the California Dressage Society hosted a Toys for Tots Dressage Show Dec. 15 at 8 a.m., at the on-campus Student Horse Center. Each participant brought an unwrapped toy as part of their entry fee. Two large barrels and several boxes of toys were given to the Marines. The team collected toys last season for Toys for Tots but this is the team's first event with the society.
