Carlotti Eliminated at ITA Northwest Regional Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - Fourth-seeded Chloe Carlotti was upset by No. 9-seed Daria Panova of Oregon in the round of 16 of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, being played this weekend at the Taube Family Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif.
Carlotti, currently ranked 24th in the nation, opened play Saturday with a three-set victory over Erin Boisclair of Washington by scores of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. But in the round of 16 she fell to Panova 7-5, 6-2.
Two other Bulldogs lost in the second round. Courtney Jantz lost to 14th-seeded Lorena Arias of Washington State 6-2, 6-2. Also on the losing end was Vlatka Jovanovic, who was bounced by No. 16-seed Alice Barnes of Stanford 6-2, 6-1.
The fourth Fresno State player competing in the event was Katherin Winterhalter, but she was forced to retire in the consolation bracket with an injury suffered in her first round loss against Davina Mendiburo of Oregon.
Doubles was a much brighter picture for the Bulldogs. The seventh-seeded team of Carlotti and Jantz won their round of 16 match against Jessica Shu and Catherine Lynch of California 8-4. Also competing in doubles is Jovanovic and Winterhalter. Their round of 16 match against Vida Senci and Barbora Kudlikova of Idaho will be played Sunday.
