Fresno State, which is ranked No. 16 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Top 25 preseason poll, is celebrating 25 years as a varsity program this season. In recognition, a tribute and celebration to the student-athletes who propelled the Bulldogs into a national powerhouse is being planned for April 6. All alumni are being encouraged to attend the event (details: 559-278-6833).
The Bulldogs, who have been nationally ranked every week for 163 weeks since the NCAA's first Top 15 poll in 1983, have one national title (1998) and four runner-up trophies to their credit.
In addition, fans can meet head coach Margie Wright. Wright, who is the NCAA's all-time winningest coach, will be making history this season. Wright will be the first NCAA Division I softball coach to amass 1,000 Division I softball wins.
