FRESNO, Calif. - Having just celebrated her 1000th win as a NCAA Division I head coach, Fresno State head softball coach Margie Wright knows what it takes to build a winning team. Now, Wright is partnering with the Central California Blood Center to help build another team, "the Donor Team," 1000 donors strong!
"On this team, everyone's a winner because everyone saves a life," Wright stated. "I challenge everyone to step up to the plate, join the 'Donor Team' and give blookd at this year's, Jenny Eller Blood Drive Challenge."
The Second Annual Jenny Eller Blood Drive Challenge honors the memory of Jenny Eller, a softball standout who knew first hand the need for blood.
"Due to leukemia, Jenny never had a chace to play, let alone win a thousand games," said Dean Eller, President and CEO of the Central California Blood Center. "Please help, join Margie's team and let's save a thousand lives."
Donors who donate at any of the four Cental California Blood Centers and say they are there to join the 'Donor Team,' mention coach Wright or Jenny Eller will receive a commemorative "1000 Wins-25 Seasons" softball t-shirt. Donor rewards also include a voucher for $2 off any Fresno State softball regular-season home game for 2002. Whether you're a "rookie" or a "seasoned player" there's a place on this lifesaving team for you!
Whole blood donations take under an hour to complete. Blood donors must be in good general health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be a minimum of 17 years old. Donors should eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours prior to their donation. Donors are reminded that a social security number is requried for registration and first-time donors must present photo identification.
The Central California Blood Center is the sole source of blood and blood products for the 30 hospitals serving the counties of Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Tular and Kings. The Center must collect over 250 pints of blood daily to meet the community's needs.
