No. 10 Softball Bows Out of Kia Klassic

FULLERTON, Calif. - No. 10 Fresno State mustered only one hit and dropped a 6-0 decision to ninth-ranked CS Fullerton in the quarterfinal round of the Kia Klassic.
The Titans scored six runs on 11 hits as pitcher Gina Oaks struck out 10 and improved to 13-2 on the year. Jenny Topping hit a two-run home run for CS Fullerton as she had two of the team's five RBI.
Sophomore left-hander Lori Hoffman got the starting nod. Hoffman, who fell to 0-2, gave up two runs on three hits in 2.2 innings of work. Junior right-hander Leslie Poole pitched 3.1 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits.
Fresno State, which wrapped up tournament play with a 3-2 mark, suffered its third shutout loss on the season. The loss also marked the first time that the Bulldogs dropped a decision by more than two runs.
In the tournament, senior center fielder Tiffany Whipple batted .428 (7-16) with four runs. Sophomore second baseman Pam Perez followed with .357 (5-14) with two runs, RBI, walk and a sacrifice hit.
Freshman right-hander Jamie Southern went 3-0 with one shutout and gave up 16 hits, three runs (one earned), two walks and struck out 27 in 21.0 innings for a 0.33 ERA.
