Riders Competed in IHSA Regionals March 24 16 Riders from the equestrian team competed in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Regionals at UC Davis. Seven riders placed in the top two spots and will move to the Zone Eight Finals in Nevada. Dawn Crawford, Katey Feeley, Michaela Mathis, Dawn McIntosh, Shannon Morrison, Dana Van Der Giessen, Christa Brown, Amanda Smith, Nicole Burkett-Mitchell, Amy Reed, Christy Webb, Heather Kaiser, Maja Jorden, Lisa McPeters, Stephanie Reeves and Katie Wagner all participated in the show.
Local Women Named Regional Champions Bullard High alumna Amanda Smith (Fresno, Calif.) was the Regional Champion in the English Walk-Trot-Canter class. San Joaquin Memorial alumna Shannon Morrison (Fresno, Calif.) was the Regional Champion of the Novice Equitation on the Flat class. The women will move to the Zone Championships.
Reed and Feeley Pull Double Duty at Regional Championships Amy Reed (Grand Rapids, Mich.) garnered two Regional Championships titles. The sophomore was the Regional Champion of the Western Walk-Jog class and of the English Walk-Trot class. Katey Feeley (Santa Barbara, Calif.) was the Regional Champion of the Intermediate Equitation Over Fences class. The senior also was the Regional Champion of the Open Equitation on the Flat class.
Kaiser and Wagner Dominate Intermediate Stock Seat Class Fresno State dominated the Intermediate Stock Seat class. Western riders Katie Wagner (Fullerton, Calif.) and Heather Kaiser (Jerome, Idaho) were the Regional and Reserve champions in the class.
Crawford Will Compete at Zone Eight Championships Senior Dawn Crawford (Oak Hills, Calif.) was the Reserve Champion of the Open Equitation on the Flat class.
Dressage Show Moved to New Location The team originally had a show scheduled on March 30 at the Student Horse Center. The show has been moved to Eden Ranch. The starting time is TBA.
Three Riders Competed in NCAA Show March 17 The equestrian team competed in the 2001-02 Series Championship. The championship combined the New Mexico show with one held at Findley. Fresno State was the Reserve Champion overall.
Fresno State Won Both Miller's Cup and AQHA With the Western team's win, the Bulldogs maintain their lead in the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Region 1 standings. The team has 140 points. The English team leads the Miller's Collegiate Cup Region 1 standings with 201 points.
