FRESNO, Calif. - No. 12 Fresno State punched out three runs on eight hits and cruised to a 3-0 victory over Cal Poly at Bulldog Diamond.
Freshman right-hander Jamie Southern dominated the game as she gave up two hits, walked two and struck out eight en route to her 15th shutout and 22nd win as the Bulldogs improved to 33-13 on the season.
Tallying three doubles in the game, Fresno State was led offensively by senior center fielder Tiffany Whipple (2-3), senior third baseman Lindsay Fossatti (2-3) and junior catcher Pam West (2-3). Sophomore designated player Lori Hoffman and Fossatti each had a RBI for the Bulldogs. West and Hoffman along with senior left fielder Lashme Gomez also had a double a piece.
Fresno State scored a run in the third, fifth and sixth inning.
In the third, senior first baseman Vanessa Czarnecki led off and was hit by Cal Poly pitcher Jennifer Graver. Sophomore second baseman Pam Perez grounded out and moved Czarnecki to second. Wither Czarnecki advancing to third on a wild pitch, Fossatti singled to left field to score Czarnecki.
In the fifth with one out, Fossatti lined a single to left field. Junior Sha Oliver came in to pinch run for Fossatti before Southern reached safely on a fielder's choice and Oliver was not tagged out. Hoffman then doubled down the left field line to score Oliver.
In the sixth, West led the inning off with a double to left field. With freshman Julie Selbicky coming in to pinch run, freshman shortstop Leticia Pacheco sacrificed Selbicky to third. Czarnecki knocked in Selbicky after grounding out to the Mustang second baseman.
