No. 12 Softball Takes Night Cap Against San Jose State

FRESNO, Calif. - Before the 15th-largest crowd in school history (3,038), No. 12 Fresno State softball sealed a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep with a 1-0 win in the night cap against San Jose State at Bulldog Diamond.
Winning its last 14 straight at Bulldog Diamond, the Bulldogs extended their win streak to eight straight as junior right-hander Leslie Poole and freshman right-hander Jamie Southern held the Spartans scoreless.
Poole pitched six innings, gave up five hits and struck out three to improve to 11-3 on the season. Southern came in the top of the seventh and notched her third save on the year after striking out two of the three batters faced.
For the second game in a row, Southern knocked in the Bulldogs' lone run with a RBI single in the first as Fresno State improved to 36-13 overall and 9-1 in WAC play.
Senior center fielder Tiffany Whipple went 3-3 with a run in the night cap. On the day, Whipple batted .667 (4-6) with two runs. In the four-game series at Bulldog Diamond, Whipple also hit .667 (8-12) with three runs.
In the first, Whipple led off with an infield single. Sophomore right fielder Pam Perez sacrificed Whipple to second. Senior third baseman Lindsay Fossatti lined a shot to center field to put runners on the corners. Southern then singled to right field as Whipple scored.
Fresno State will embark on a 10-game road swing that will take the Bulldogs to Oklahoma, Hawaii, Louisiana and back to Oklahoma from April 16-27.
The Bulldogs first will play in the inaugural West Coast-Midwest Challenge, April 16-17, in Oklahoma City. Fresno State will tangle with No. 9 Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 16, 5:30 p.m. (CDT) before closing out with Oklahoma State on Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. (CDT).
Fresno State then will resume WAC play at Hawai'i, which took three of four from Louisiana Tech this past weekend. The Bulldogs sit in first place in the conference standings, a half game up on the Rainbow Wahine.
Fresno State plays Hawai'i on Friday, April 19, 5:00 p.m. (HST) and Saturday, 2:00 p.m. (HST).
The Bulldogs will not be back home until May 1 when they host UC Santa Barbara in a non-conference doubleheader at 6:00 p.m.
