Softball's Jamie Southern Earns NFCA Player of the Week

Columbia, Mo. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has named freshman Jamie Southern (Clovis, Calif.) the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week. She shares the honor with Cat Osterman of Texas.
Southern, who pitched a perfect game versus San Jose State Saturday, April 13, threw 20 scoreless innings to extend her scoreless streak to 44.2 consecutive innings. The two-time award winner also notched her third no-hitter en route to her 16th shutout in 24 wins. In addition, Southern has earned three saves on the year with her recent stanza in the closing inning of the San Jose State nightcap. Opponents are batting .078 in 20 innings against the WAC Pitcher of the Week. In WAC play, Southern is 5-1 with four shutouts, one no-hitter (perfect game) and 63 strikeouts (8.00 strikeouts 7/IP) with a 0.25 ERA in 55.1 innings of work.
Fresno State heads to Hawai'i for two games, beginning Friday, April 19, at 5 p.m. The second and final game of the long road trip will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. All times are local to site.
