Fresno State Placed Eighth at Varsity Championships
The team rode in the the first USA Varsity Equestrian Championship were held April 20, 2002, at Full Partners Farm in Gainesville, Florida. Out of the six Fresno State riders who competed in the championship five garnered top 10 finishes.
Four Riders Placed in Florida
*English rider Dawn Crawford (Oak Hills, Calif.) won the Open Equitation over Fences class and placed seventh in the Open Equitation on the Flat.
*Junior Amanda Smith (Fresno, Calif.) placed second in the Intermediate Western Horsemanship. Smith is a 1998 graduate of Bullard High.
*Senior rider Stacy Steinhoff (Montara, Calif.) placed fifth in the Open Western Horsemanship class.
*Sophomore Dawn McIntosh (Los Gatos, Calif.) placed 10th in the Intermediate Equitation over Fences.
Five Individual Bulldogs will Ride in IHSA National Championships
Although the team will not move to the National Championships on May 3-5 in Cazenovia, N.Y., five (two Western and three English) individual riders from zone will compete at the national level.
Riders, Classes and Days at nationals:
*Sophomore Katie Wagner (Fullerton, Calif.) will ride in the Individual Intermediate Western Horsemanship class Friday.
*Senior Katey Feeley (Santa Barbara, Calif.) will ride in the Individual Hunter Seat Over Fences class on Saturday.
*Junior Amanda Smith (Fresno, Calif.) will ride in the Individual Hunter Seat Walk-Trot-Canter Sunday.
*Sophomore Amy Reed (Grand Rapids, Mich.) will ride in the Beginner Western Horsemanship class Sunday.
*Sophomore Dawn McIntosh (Los Gatos, Calif.) will ride in the Open Hunter Seat on the Flat class Sunday.
