FRESNO, Calif. - Bulldog Portrait: An Inner Perspective by Jennifer Smith
1) What three accomplishments are you most proud of and why?
I am proud of getting married because I have the best spouse I could ever ask for. I am proud of graduating in May 2002 because when I transferred schools I lost a lot of units. And I am proud of playing four years of collegiate softball and starting every game of my college career.
2) How did you get involved in softball?
My dad started umpiring my freshman year in high school and I wanted to umpire just like him. I ran track my freshman year and after track practice I would umpire. I decided to play softball the next year rather than run track because I loved the thrill of robbing people of base hits and stealing bases.
3) If your life philosophy could be summed up on a bumper sticker, what would it say?
Life is what you make it, so if you think the grass is greener on the other side, you must be color blind.
4) How did you meet your husband? When did you know he was the One?
I met Nathan right after high school graduation when I was visiting my grandparents. Nathan and my grandparents were serving missions. It wasn't love at first sight, but I knew he was the one the moment I met him. I just had the feeling he was the one I was supposed to marry.
5) What possessions are you ridiculously attached too?
My pink blanket my grandmother made me and the scriptures.
6) Does one college game stand out to you among all others?
Last year's DePaul game. I hit in the winning run with bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning.
7) What do you want to do after college?
I plan to start my family, coach high school, and teach elementary school when my children are all in school.
8) What is the biggest lesson sports have taught you about life?
The only limitations I have are those I place on myself. If others don't believe in me it doesn't matter because I know if I believe in myself I can do anything.
9) Recite one thing you know by heart.
I will go and do what the Lord commandeth for I know the Lord giveth no commandment unto the children of men save he shall prepare a way for them to accomplish what he asketh. 1 Nephi 3:7
