Equestrian Takes Second at Zone Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - The equestrian English team competed in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone Eight Championship today in Nevada. Top riders from the zone championship will compete at the National Championships May 3-5 in Cazenovia, N.Y.
Fresno State took second place of four teams with 42 points. Cal Poly topped the Bulldogs by just two points.
Equestrian head coach Megan McGee was pleased with the team's performance. "It was a very close race," said McGee. "It was a tough competition and we had some very strong riders. Fresno State and Cal Poly were the clear leaders and they were neck and neck down to the last class. We look forward to tomorrow's Western show."
English team placings and classes:
Senior Dawn Crawford (Oak Hills, Calif.) placed second in the Open Equitation over Fences.
Senior Katey Feeley (Santa Barbara, Calif.) placed second in the Open Equitation Walk-Trot-Canter.n on the Flat.
Junior Michaela Mathis (Lemoore, Calif) placed second in the Intermediate Equitation over Fences.
Sophomore Amanda Hancock (Victoria, B.C.) placed second in the Intermediate Equitation on the Flat.
Senior Kristen Darrell (Livermore, Calif.) placed second in the Novice Equitation over Fences.
Freshman Emily Brown (Gig Harbor, Wash.) placed fourth in the Novice Equitation on the Flat.
Sophomore Sarah Holmes (Fresno, Calif.) placed second in the Walk-Trot-Canter. Junior Liz Willey (Fresno, Calif.) placed second in the Walk-Trot.
English individual placings and classes:

Sophomore Shannon Morrison (Fresno, Calif.) placed seventh in the Novice Equitation on the Flat.
Junior Amanda Smith (Fresno, Calif.) placed first in the Walk-Trot-Canter.
Sophomore Amy Reed (Grand Rapids, Mich.) placed fourth in the Walk -Trot.
Fresno State continues action tomorrow as the western team rides at 8 a.m. Fresno State, Cal Poly, College of Southern Utah and Oregon State will compete in the show.
