Equestrian's Western Team Places Third at Zone

FRESNO, Calif. - The equestrian team finished its Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) season today at the Zone Eight Championships in Nevada. Although the team will not move to the National Championships on May 3-5 in Cazenovia, N.Y., five (two Western and three English) individual riders from zone will compete at the national level.
Fresno State's Western team finished third today with 23 points behind Cal Poly- Pomona (29) and the College of Southern Idaho (27). The English team rode Saturday and was the Reserve Champion with 42 points. Cal Poly -Pomona beat the Bulldogs by two points.
The following women will represent Fresno State at the National Championships:
*SeniorKatey Feeley (Santa Barbara, Calif.) was theReserve Champion in the Intermediate Equitation overFences class.*Sophomore Dawn McIntosh (Los Gatos, Calif.) was the Reserve Champion in the Intermediate Equitation on theFlat class.*Junior Amanda Smith (Fresno, Calif.) was theZone Champion of the Walk-Trot-Canter class.*Sophomore Katie Wagner (Fullerton, Calif.) was theReserve Champion in Intermediate Western Horsemanship.*Sophomore Amy Reed (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was theZone Champion of the Beginning Western Horsemanship.
Western Team Riders, Placings and Classes:*Talor Mason (Ione, Calif.) was the Reserve Champion in Reining.*SophomoreJennifer Levenfeld (Hollister, Calif.) was the Champion inOpen Western Horsemanship.*Freshman Beth Knapp (Durham, Calif.) placed fourth inAdvanced Western Horsemanship.*Junior Elisha McArthur (Santa Maria, Calif.) placed third inIntermediate Western Horsemanship.*Sophomore Jennifer Campbell (Clovis, Calif.) placed third inBeginning Western Horsemanship.

"We had success in many classes this weekend," head coach Megan McGee said. "We faced schools from all over the western United States. The competition is always very tight. We usually either win or lose by a few points. We took young riders and the experience and exposure will prepare them for the National Championships."
