FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State softball added two more players to its 2003 class to push its total to five signees as announced by head coach Margie Wright.
Infielders Veronica Green (Lakewood, Colo.) and Lindsey Rollins (South Lake Tahoe, Calif.) joins three early Bulldog signees in infielder Christina Clark (Santa Anna, Calif.), pitcher Laura Ferreira (El Sobrante, Calif.) and outfielder Nicole Shan (Whittier, Calif.).
Green, who is the first prep player to sign out of Colorado with Fresno State, is a 5-7 infielder who played third base at Wheat Ridge High School. Also with experience as a pitcher, Green was a four-time all-conference selection who garnered first team all-state and all-Colorado accolades her sophomore, junior and senior years.
Green, who has been considered a top prospect coming out of large high schools in Colorado at third base, hit .463 with 25 RBI (second in state) as a sophomore and batted .387 with 26 RBI her junior year. In her prep career, Green hit .418 with 21 extra base hits and 65 RBI.
A power hitter, Green helped WRHS to a district championship and her team was one of four large high schools that reached State quarterfinal round as a sophomore.
Rollins, who also is the first prep player to sign out of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., is a 5-11 infielder who can play any position around the horn. A switch hitter, Rollins has been a four-year varsity starter for Douglas High School.
Batting .450 her senior year, Rollins scored 24 runs with 11 multiple-hit games and 30 RBI. With a .590 slugging percentage, she also had 15 multiple-hit games in 35 played for the Lady Tigers.
Playing summer ball for the Crusaders' 18-under, Rollins hit .324 with 10 multiple-hit games and 17 RBI in 31 games last summer.
"Veronica and Lindsey will provide power and can play anywhere," head coach Margie Wright said. "They'll be great additions to a strong team that will be coming back next season. They both understand how to win. They'll be big pluses for us."
