Mason Wins Reining Championships
Western freshman rider Taylor Mason (Ione, Calif.) won the first ever National College Reinging Championships on May 17th in Oklahoma City, Calif. Mason was the only Bulldog to compete. Mason faced 10 riders from across the United States.
Five Individual Bulldogs Finished in the Top Ten at Nationals
*Sophomore Katie Wagner (Fullerton, Calif.) placed ninth in the Individual Intermediate Western Horsemanship.
*Senior Katey Feeley (Santa Barbara, Calif.) placed eighth in the Individual Hunter Seat over Fences class.
*Junior Amanda Smith (Fresno, Calif.) placed tenth in the Individual Hunter Seat Walk-Trot-Canter Sunday.
*Sophomore Amy Reed (Grand Rapids, Mich.) placed third in the Beginner Western Horsemanship. *Sophomore Dawn McIntosh (Los Gatos, Calif.) placed sixth in the Open Hunter Seat on the Flat.
Fresno State Placed Eighth at Varsity Championships
The team rode in the the first USA Varsity Equestrian Championship were held April 20, 2002, at Full Partners Farm in Gainesville, Florida. Out of the six Fresno State riders who competed in the championship five garnered top 10 finishes.
Four Riders Placed in Florida
English rider Dawn Crawford (Oak Hills, Calif.) won the Open Equitation over Fences class and placed seventh in the Open Equitation on the Flat.
Junior Amanda Smith (Fresno, Calif.) placed second in the Intermediate Western Horsemanship. Smith is a 1998 graduate of Bullard High.
Senior rider Stacy Steinhoff (Montara, Calif.) placed fifth in the Open Western Horsemanship class. Sophomore Dawn McIntosh (Los Gatos, Calif.) placed 10th in the Intermediate Equitation over Fences.
