FRESNO, Calif. - For just the second time in the last 50 days, Fresno State will play a home game this week. The Bulldogs, currently riding a season-long three-game winning streak, host rival San Jose State on Saturday at 4 p.m. The meeting is the 68th all-time, with the series currently tied at 32-32-3.
The Bulldogs won their third in a row, including second consecutive on the road, by defeating Nevada 27-10 in Reno. Paul Pinegar threw for 184 yards and a touchdown and Bernard Berrian had 73 receiving yards to spur the offense, which began the game by scoring on its first three possessions. But it was the Bulldogs defense that was the story, holding the Wolf Pack's high-powered offense to just one touchdown, which didn't come until the fourth quarter when Fresno State held a 24-3 lead.
Fresno State and San Jose State have played 67 times in history, and the series is deadlocked at 32-32-3. However, the Bulldogs have dominated the series of late, winning 11 of the last 12 and nine in a row, including last year's 19-16 victory that gave Fresno State a berth in the Silicon Valley Football Classic. The Bulldogs' winning streak is the longest in the history of the series and the program's third-longest ever against any opponent. A win on Saturday would give Fresno State a lead in the all-time series for the first time since 1947.
