Former All-America center fielder standout Laura Berg (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.) and the rest of the 2004 Women's National Team is preparing for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games (July 25-Aug. 23) when it begins a 10-month tune up next week in Yokohama, Japan.
The Japan Cup, Nov. 28-30, is the first tournament on hand for the U.S. National Team. The event will be a tri-country invitational as two-time Olympic gold medalist United States, 2000 Olympic silver medalist Japan and 1996 Olympic silver medalist China collide at Hodogaya Park Baseball Field next week.
Berg, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and starting center fielder for the United States at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympic Games, is looking to make her third straight U.S. Olympic Softball Team.
While the final 15-player U.S. Olympic squad that will compete in Athens, Greece will be announced in January, Berg's international resume includes gold medals at ISF World Championships, Pan American Games and Olympic Games.
