DENVER- Another early season accolade has been awarded to Aritta Lane (Aiea, Hawaii), as the junior forward was officially named WAC women's basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 8-14 earlier this morning.
The conference honor for Lane- the first of her career- is also the first for any women's basketball player at Fresno State since Lindsay Logan was recognized back on Nov. 26, 2001.
Lane scored a career-high 25 points on 9-20 shooting from the field in Fresno State's 71-61 win over Santa Clara last weekend. She was 3-5 from the three-point line and also pulled down nine rebounds in 32 minutes. Lane scored 20 of her 25 points in the second half, when Fresno State erupted for 42 points.
Earlier in the week, she led all scorers with 22 points in the Bulldog's 70-65 victory over Long Beach State. In that game, she was 6-9 from the field and 10-11 from the free throw line.
Lane leads the Bulldogs in scoring at 18.6 ppg and also leads the WAC. She is also currently leading the club in rebounding at 6.9 per game and ranks fifth in the league.
Fresno State heads south this weekend to face Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Dec. 19, and UCLA on Sunday, Dec. 21. The Bulldogs, who were 7-1 against California schools last year, are now 2-0 this season.
