FRESNO, Calif. - Coming off one of the greatest defensive performances in program history, Fresno State looks to wrap up the longest homestand of the season this afternoon on a winning note against San Francisco. The Bulldogs are 3-5 following Monday night's 46-29 win over Washington State, while the Dons come in 8-4 with five consecutive wins after a buzzer-beating 73-72 over Pacific on Tuesday. This afternoon's contest is the final game before Fresno State opens up WAC play on Jan. 3 at Hawaii.
The Dons hold a 12-4 lead in the all-time series, although Fresno State has won three of the last five. Fresno State began its series with USF in 1953 and lost the first seven meetings. In the most recent matchup, the Bulldogs defeated the Dons 74-71 last year at War Memorial Gym, the program's first ever win at USF. The Bulldogs are 3-4 at home all-time against San Francisco.
San Francisco enters the game 8-4 and riding a five-game winning streak. The Dons made waves early in the year by defeating Ohio State 76-65 but then lost three of its next four. However, on their recent four-game homestand, the Dons went 4-0, capped by a buzzer-beating win over Pacific on Tuesday.
On Monday, Terry Pettis made a return to the lineup by scoring a game-high 10 and the Bulldogs held the Cougars to just 23.3 percent shooting from the floor. Marcus Moore led WSU with eight points. The win snapped Fresno State's three-game home losing streak.
